Chinese State Circus.

Today I took my boys to see the Chinese state circus at the corn exchange ,in Cambridge.

It was good to get out for the day,I didn’t have to drive so that was a nice treat too. My friend took us and after my last attempt at driving to Cambridge I was surprised to see that I could remember my way this  time.

The show lasted about an hour and forty minutes, and was full of entertainment ,daring and skill .

which included the Shaolin Wu-Shu Warriors. hoop diving, jar juggling and the Chinese lion dance.

The human chandelier was very impressive.

I wonder what kind of training these guys have to do to keep so supple and flexible.

A Close Encounter

when I left Les Gets , the sky was blue and the sun was out, a real gorgeous day.

My flight was delayed for an hour but I didn’t really care ,I had a good book to finish and was in no real hurry to get home.

Towards the end of the flight, while getting ready to land, we were warned that it would be a bumpy landing due to high winds. It was a bit hairy and I was glad when we finally landed as I had started to feel alittle sick.

Getting off the plane , we felt just how windy it was ,as it almost swept us off our feet.

Here in Norfolk, some one had a very close escape , when HIGH-SPEED howling winds blew a wind turbine blade into their  conservatory.

With more and more of these wind turbines going up, it makes you wonder just how safe they really are.

Ramblers Association

I have been a member of the Ramblers Association for over 2 years now. It came into my life, when after 18 years of marriage I suddenly found myself on my own,I saw it as a way of starting a new life , making new friends and most of all doing  some thing I enjoyed, walking !!

I started using the Forum as a way of meeting up with people for walks. Its also a great way of finding out about group walks in your Area.

Over the years there have not been many Sundays where I have not walked, be it either a group walk or just meeting up with new friends. My local group is a very active group and make you feel very welcome , I never felt afraid of turning up on my own.

I also went to the Lakes and met up with some great guys, we walked up Scarfell pike and I did my first wild camp, which was fantastic, some thing I will never forget.

Before long I started wanting to walk longer distances, so I decided to try out the LDWA they always walk at least 20 miles and at a much faster pace.

Then more recently I met my new friends,Ellee and Geoff They came to do a walk I was doing from Castle Acre all with friends I have met off the RA forum.

Basically the Ramblers forum saved my life and I would recommend it to anyone, its just a great way of getting out in the fresh air and meeting new people.

Chain saw massacre

In the square in Les Gets on a Wednesday evening , you get free mulled wine ,some thing I got a taste for while I was there, a live band playing and yesterday there was also a demonstration on wood sculpting, using a chain saw.

It all looked very interesting but just one slip could of ruined the whole thing.

Around the square they had set fire  to some tree trunks which not only  looked great but was a good way to keep warm too.

Next to all this was an out door ice rink , some thing I decided to keep away from, did not need any more bruises that’s for sure.

All in all its been a great holiday for me,with such fab company, certainly a holiday too remember .

Les Gets

Just returned home from my little adventure, well big adventure for me.It’s been 7 years since I last went abroad ,infact only the second time in my whole life !

Skiing don’t come easy to me, I cannot tell you how scared I was going up that chair lift for the first time, trying to remember if I would even know what to do.

Spent most of the first day, out in the pouring rain, falling over more times than I care to remember , I have some superb looking bruises.

I was not going to be put of though and when the sun was out on the second day I had a much better time and quite enjoyed myself, not bad for someone who’s only skied once before.Amazing what you can remember after a whole 7 years, goes to show that ski schools are worth there money.

Afraid on the third day I wimped out, the little snow there was had turned a bit icy and I just didn’t want to end my holiday on a bad skiing day.

My trip home was a bit scary having never traveled so far on my own before but I got home safe and sound ,although the landing at Stansted was a bit hairy due to strong winds.

Death by Cheese

Last night being our last night in Les Gets we decided to go out for dinner. We went to Les Copeaux in Les Gets and over dosed on cheese by having a cheese fondue and a Raclett. Our Raclett was served with a selection of meats. using an electric table-top grill to melt the cheese.

Washed down with red wine this was all delish and by the time we had finished we were all feeling rather sick, but still found room for a pudding.

As you can see Steve still managed to wipe the bowl clean.

It will take me a month to exercise all those calories away but it was too good to miss out on.

Eat watch

If like me you have to watch what you eat all the time ,and find you put on weight real easy then this could be the programme for you.

Having just lost a stone in weight by going to  slimming world I am determined to keep it off and loose another half a stone at least

Eat watch should ,I hope, make it alittle easier for me its very interesting weighing yourself everyday and noting the difference , seeing if a pattern immerges.

Once I’ve been on my holidays I will get back into my exercise and will see what a difference this will make.

Muffins

I Know certain people have been waiting for this………..so today is their lucky day.

I really enjoy baking muffins and its become a bit of a joke on the RA forums, when I walk with a certian group of people I usually take muffins for them. I once went and met a group of people in the lakes for a week-end of walking which included a wild camp on scarfell pike, was the most freezing cold night I have ever known, I took them chocolate muffins and cheese and bacon ones too.

So what are muffins? Muffins are simple to make, quick to bake and very nutritious,a great alternative to junk food. They have a light cake like texture and yet they have lower proportions of sugar and fat than most cakes. Crisps and chocolate bars are very high in fat and offer little if any nutritional value. Muffins on the other hand, are well balanced nutritionally and offer a wide variety of delicious options. These are my favorite books, and here is one of her recipes.
