Friends

Reading Geoff’s blog the other day about his friend Stan, got me thinking, how lovely it must be to have real long term friends.

I envy anyone that has lived in one place for along time and has many friends.

25 years of my life was centered around the RAF, for 18 of these years I was married to a serviceman and lived in 8 different houses including ones in Wales Scotland and Northern Ireland.

I made lots of friends, then you moved on and started again making more friends.

The few I keep in touch with are very dear friends but I seldom see any of them, a big downfall of service life.

The last of my friends moved from Marham a while ago, I had to move house away from service life and into the big bad world.

I have had to work real hard at making a new life  and thanks to my love of walking this is happening ,slowly I am making new and wonderful friends, ones I hope will be around for along time.

So remember to treasure the friends you have……….

What a difference a day makes..

Yesterday we had 70mph winds bringing havoc to the area, with many fallen trees and power cables.

HGV drivers were pulling over on the A47 and the A10 as the winds got too strong and threatened to push them over.

Near Swaffham, a galvanized pig pen on a field broke loose and flew across the A47 and the end of a house fell down in Lynn, just missing a mum and her child.

Took me twice aslong to get home from work, because the A10 was blocked,so I turned round and decided to come home via Narborough only to find that road blocked too , by a fallen tree ,but I didn’t have to wait too long before that was cleared.

No powers cuts for me but they say at least 16,ooo  homes had no power.

Only damage to me seems to have been a smashed garden fence and the lack of a TV picture.

Then today I woke up to a gorgeous day, blue sky and sunshine……..

Training Programme

Yesterday I started my training….got to get my legs strong so I can be fit enough to walk the GR20 in June. Some thing I am very excited about.

Aswell as my usual routine of walking, swimming and biking, I am going to start walking on the tread mill and slowly increase the incline …. will use my ruc-sac too after a while, so I get used to carrying it.

I have also been advised to start doing some squats and lunges , other weight training exercises will be good too.

Infact the gym I go to have said they will work me out a routine, to work my legs while down the gym.

I keep having a read of the Cicerone guide book,I have about the GR20, by Paddy Dillon and its all the motivation I need.

Rhubarb Lasagne

Just came across an interesting post on Ellee’s blog, about her Rhubarb Lasagne. Interesting because this is a Slimming world Recipe,as well as a weight watchers. Not sure how the Weight watchers plan works but on slimming world this recipe has a points value, and best eaten on a Green day. not an Original day

It certainly is a great recipe and no one you served it too would think it came from a  diet book.

I once made a great Rhubarb Crumble, and someone I know dropped it on the floor , maybe he don’t like my cooking…

No Damage Done….

Went back to slimming world yesterday, and much to my delight, even after being on holiday,I had lost one and a half pounds.

Eating all that cheese in Les Gets didn’t stop me from loosing some weight which makes you wonder about the Atkins Diet. I know it worked for many but I never thought it could be a healthy diet.

Suppose I am more into healthy  eating…..a way for life……not just a diet for a few months.

For many years I followed the Rosemary Conley way of eating , and had great results, but then I lost my way for a while. So I decided I needed a change , eventually I decided on slimming world and it suits me fine as it involves alot of home cooking which I do enjoy so much.

You may gather from this that I have always had to watch my weight, that’s how I discovered exercise,my weight is easier to control if I exercise…..it also makes me feel good and keeps the stress away…I would recommend it to anyone…

Exercise.

Having had a break for a few weeks I am craving some exercise. Exercise has become part of my daily routine, just like most find time to watch TV, I find time to exercise.

Don’t get me wrong I am not addicted to exercise, and don’t exercise every day but maybe 5 days out of seven . my mood dictates what kind of exercise I do but I do enjoy some thing that makes me work and some times when I start I don’t know when to stop.

I used to jog, was a great stress relief and the only way I could find to relax, then my knees started hurting so I stopped but just recently I’ve had this real big urge to start again. Then I read this article and have decided maybe I will leave the jogging and stick to the biking , walking, and gym

The question is though….can a 3 mile walk ever be as good as a 3 mile jog ??
