Training Programme

Yesterday I started my training….got to get my legs strong so I can be fit enough to walk the GR20 in June. Some thing I am very excited about.

Aswell as my usual routine of walking, swimming and biking, I am going to start walking on the tread mill and slowly increase the incline …. will use my ruc-sac too after a while, so I get used to carrying it.

I have also been advised to start doing some squats and lunges , other weight training exercises will be good too.

Infact the gym I go to have said they will work me out a routine, to work my legs while down the gym.

I keep having a read of the Cicerone guide book,I have about the GR20, by Paddy Dillon and its all the motivation I need.

Rhubarb Lasagne

Just came across an interesting post on Ellee’s blog, about her Rhubarb Lasagne. Interesting because this is a Slimming world Recipe,as well as a weight watchers. Not sure how the Weight watchers plan works but on slimming world this recipe has a points value, and best eaten on a Green day. not an Original day

It certainly is a great recipe and no one you served it too would think it came from a  diet book.

I once made a great Rhubarb Crumble, and someone I know dropped it on the floor , maybe he don’t like my cooking…

No Damage Done….

Went back to slimming world yesterday, and much to my delight, even after being on holiday,I had lost one and a half pounds.

Eating all that cheese in Les Gets didn’t stop me from loosing some weight which makes you wonder about the Atkins Diet. I know it worked for many but I never thought it could be a healthy diet.

Suppose I am more into healthy  eating…..a way for life……not just a diet for a few months.

For many years I followed the Rosemary Conley way of eating , and had great results, but then I lost my way for a while. So I decided I needed a change , eventually I decided on slimming world and it suits me fine as it involves alot of home cooking which I do enjoy so much.

You may gather from this that I have always had to watch my weight, that’s how I discovered exercise,my weight is easier to control if I exercise…..it also makes me feel good and keeps the stress away…I would recommend it to anyone…

Exercise.

Having had a break for a few weeks I am craving some exercise. Exercise has become part of my daily routine, just like most find time to watch TV, I find time to exercise.

Don’t get me wrong I am not addicted to exercise, and don’t exercise every day but maybe 5 days out of seven . my mood dictates what kind of exercise I do but I do enjoy some thing that makes me work and some times when I start I don’t know when to stop.

I used to jog, was a great stress relief and the only way I could find to relax, then my knees started hurting so I stopped but just recently I’ve had this real big urge to start again. Then I read this article and have decided maybe I will leave the jogging and stick to the biking , walking, and gym

The question is though….can a 3 mile walk ever be as good as a 3 mile jog ??

Chinese State Circus.

Today I took my boys to see the Chinese state circus at the corn exchange ,in Cambridge.

It was good to get out for the day,I didn’t have to drive so that was a nice treat too. My friend took us and after my last attempt at driving to Cambridge I was surprised to see that I could remember my way this  time.

The show lasted about an hour and forty minutes, and was full of entertainment ,daring and skill .

which included the Shaolin Wu-Shu Warriors. hoop diving, jar juggling and the Chinese lion dance.

The human chandelier was very impressive.

I wonder what kind of training these guys have to do to keep so supple and flexible.

A Close Encounter

when I left Les Gets , the sky was blue and the sun was out, a real gorgeous day.

My flight was delayed for an hour but I didn’t really care ,I had a good book to finish and was in no real hurry to get home.

Towards the end of the flight, while getting ready to land, we were warned that it would be a bumpy landing due to high winds. It was a bit hairy and I was glad when we finally landed as I had started to feel alittle sick.

Getting off the plane , we felt just how windy it was ,as it almost swept us off our feet.

Here in Norfolk, some one had a very close escape , when HIGH-SPEED howling winds blew a wind turbine blade into their  conservatory.

With more and more of these wind turbines going up, it makes you wonder just how safe they really are.

Ramblers Association

I have been a member of the Ramblers Association for over 2 years now. It came into my life, when after 18 years of marriage I suddenly found myself on my own,I saw it as a way of starting a new life , making new friends and most of all doing  some thing I enjoyed, walking !!

I started using the Forum as a way of meeting up with people for walks. Its also a great way of finding out about group walks in your Area.

Over the years there have not been many Sundays where I have not walked, be it either a group walk or just meeting up with new friends. My local group is a very active group and make you feel very welcome , I never felt afraid of turning up on my own.

I also went to the Lakes and met up with some great guys, we walked up Scarfell pike and I did my first wild camp, which was fantastic, some thing I will never forget.

Before long I started wanting to walk longer distances, so I decided to try out the LDWA they always walk at least 20 miles and at a much faster pace.

Then more recently I met my new friends,Ellee and Geoff They came to do a walk I was doing from Castle Acre all with friends I have met off the RA forum.

Basically the Ramblers forum saved my life and I would recommend it to anyone, its just a great way of getting out in the fresh air and meeting new people.
