Raspberry Gin

Yesterday I intended to make some Raspberry jam but decided the Raspberries were too expensive.
Although I still got enough Raspberries to get my first batch of Raspberry Gin started,so it will be ready for Christmas.
Then today someone at work gave me some plums and next week I should have some cooking apples too.
So my plan has changed and I shall now make plum and apple jam 🙂

For anyone wanting to know the recipe for raspberry gin here it is….

1lb of Raspberries.
12oz Granulated sugar
75c bottle of Gin or Vodka.

Place all ingredients in a jar and seal securely.
Leave in a dark place for 3 months shaking every day for the first month, then occasionally.
strain through muslin then bottle.
serve as a liqueur

Problem Solved

I decided there was no way that I was going to pay an extra 36 pound a year to the council just to get rid of my garden rubbish.
Lets face it I already pay them over a thousand pound a year, in council tax, what for I am not quite sure.
So this morning I got myself a reusable skip bag which apparently will not rot.
It will take me a good few months to fill this bag then either me or my son will take it to the recycling centre.
Today I filled it along with another two plastic bags , have been to find the recycling centre and now my garden is cleared of all rubbish.
AND it feels great !!!!

Giving in..

If you remember back in February I bloged about garden rubbish.
Well I am finding it very difficult to dispose of my Garden rubbish and may just have to give in and buy a bin.
When I was In South America my parents came to visit, did the garden and had to take all the rubbish home with them.
I have looked into a compost bin and its not really suitable for my needs.
The other alternative is to collect it in bags and take it to the recycle centre, which is right out my way.
Also not very green as this involves a 10 mile round trip in the car.
So will finding the time to go to the recycling centre, and cost of petrol be any cheaper than getting a bin.
All I know is that I will feel much happier just getting rid of all this rubbish.

Mega Bike ride

<

>

Yesterday I was lucky enough to be able to bike to London with Geoff, it was the first stage of his mega bike ride to his Apartment in Les Gets.
We had a fantastic day and covered 73 miles, with only a few minor hiccups on the way
I thoroughly enjoyed the Route Geoff had mapped out for us.
We followed country lanes to Ware then biked along the River Lea and canal tow-paths into London.
After spending a very enjoyable evening with friends who live in Queens Park, we woke early and made our way to Kings Cross at 6am to miss all the London traffic.
After having some breakfast and coffee Geoff set off on his way to Dover and I caught the Train back to Cambridge.
Now I know I must be mad BUT I would so love to be biking the other 600 miles to Les Gets.
We have a christening to go too on August 21st in Finland so Geoff has
20 days to complete his mission, which I am sure he will do easily.
I did think about going out to Les Gets for the weekend once Geoff gets there as I am sure he will need a massage.
The flights only go from Luton in summer and are too expensive just for a weekend especially once you add on the transfer to Les Gets.
Maybe we can out for a week in September when I have a weeks holiday, to do some walking and biking.
So back to my running while I wait for Geoff to return 🙂

Freedom

Its all official and legal,my son is finally on the road.
When I bought my new car back in sept 2008, my son was about to take his driving test.

So I decided to keep my old car for him.

Never thinking for one moment that it would be another year before he actually passed.
I did begin to wonder if I had made a mistake by keeping my old car but its worked out really well.
A part from the obvious reasons for wanting to pass his test , work had also offered him a promotion and a full time job if he passed his test.
So its celebrations all round and I get my beloved bike back too , though after a year of commuting its not quite the same 🙁

One out of Three !

The Birds may have eaten all my Gooseberries
My Bottle Brush plant has failed to flower
But at least I have an abundance of beautiful sweet cherry tomatoes.
