The best kind of walk

The weather was not nice when we woke this morning so I was quite glad not to be skiing today.

The plan was to go snow shoe walking, something I really enjoy.

Finally once the weather had cleared, Thierry lent us some snow shoes and we were on our way.

Due to the late start we only managed 5.4 miles but how I enjoyed it 🙂

On the way down we called into see Gail so I could say my goodbyes. 🙁

She gave me some typical french love hearts, that she had made herself and will look fab hanging in my house.

needless to say I will be sad to leave Les Gets and Geoff tomorrow.

Cheese Fondue.

When we are over in Les Gets we always have Thierry and Gail over for a Cheese fondue.

Last night we did not break with tradition 🙂

To make the cheese fondue I followed this recipe

1. Rub the pan with Garlic.

2. Add 1 glass of wine per person.

3. Add grated cheese slowly ( 250g per person ) stirring continuously

4. When smooth add 1teasp of potato Starch.

5. Add a glass of kirsch.

As well as using cubed bread to dip into the fondue I tried a diced Apple and it was delicious, I would imagine grapes would be good too.

Longest day yet

Yesterday even in the low light conditions I managed to ski from the highest point allowed on the les Gets Ski pass.

At 6575 ft it was steep in places and with a drop of 2000 ft I found it quite tough but I managed it.

Although it left me feeling mentally and physically Tired.

Then that evening my friend T arrived with her son 🙂

We set our alarms so we could be out on the first chair lift this morning and much to our delight the sun was shinning.

We stayed out for an amazing 8 hours and the sun continued to shine all day 🙂

GPS says we covered 31 miles and my maximum speed was 34 MPH, its a good job I didn’t realize this at the time 🙂

White out

We woke today to find it snowing, Just what Les Gets needed.

It has continued to snow all day long.

So no skiing today as I hate skiing in low light

When you cannot tell the difference between land and sky.

So a very lazy day doing nothing , I could not even get Geoff out for a walk.

Now i want it to stop snowing 🙂

Fridge Magnets.

In the past few years I have taken to collecting fridge magnets.

They make nice little souvenirs of all the lovely places I have been lucky enough to visit since meeting Geoff.

They take up no room in my house and are easy to carry home.

I have already got a Les Gets one from the summer,so today I bought myself two winter ones.

I was amazed at the price of these fridge magnets, almost 10 Euro, so maybe the most expensive ones I have ever bought.

Worth the money though as they will bring me hours of pleasure.

Now I wonder where the next fridge magnet will come from 🙂

Speed

The main thing about ski-ing which scares me is the Speed.

As my ski-ing has improved I have become more in control, which means I am better at controlling my speed, well most of the time 🙂

Today I took my GPS out with me to record my maximum speed.

Now I am not a fast skier by any means, my aim is always to get from top to bottom with no falling.

To my amazement my maximum speed was 25.9 mph.

Geoff is a snowboarder and his GPS recorded his maximum speed as 34.6 mph.

A good start

We may have been having lots of snow in England but here in Les Gets its not been quite as snowy as other years.

So this morning I found myself sitting on the chair lift, next to Geoff, feeling nervous about my first ski run of the year.

I had no reason to be nervous as I skied well although not always very elegantly.

Very little sun about today and by mid afternoon it was very cloudy and misty on the top.

Hoping for more  snow and sunshine in the following days.
