Following Geoff (day8/9)

This is where Geoff was on his 8th day of walking,

“St Engrace: a fairly basic gite with a bar and *great* evening meal (don’t miss!) 30 places. 0559 286 163. The church is wonderful. The walk into St Engrace along the road is to be avoided if the weather is hot.”

Although the meal was great it was not veggie !!!

Tonight he is here at Pierre St Martin,

” a long but steady climb through beautiful woods. Markings on the hill above are faint – we got slightly lost. You can buy sheep’s cheese (fromage de brebis) from the shepherd at the Col. I lived on the stuff for lunches. In any case ask to see his underground storage room *full* of cheeses. The ski station is a bit of a shock, and  the gite (a ski chalet) is the only place to stay, I think you should book here. 19 places 0559 661 446. The owner was quite a sportsman.”

Geoff did not book ahead so is sleeping in his tent again tonight.

Something new and exciting….

Tonight I went off to college to start my body massage course.

I was excited and scared all at the same time.

Excited because I was going to learn something new and interesting, scared because its been along time since I was last at school. walk 015

I joined up with 20 other people including 2 guys, one of them only being 17, who you just have to admire.

Its not going to be an easy course as there is a lot of theory work as well as practical work, but it is going to be a very enjoyable course.

At the end when you pass you have an NVQ in body massage and are qualified to practice body massage.

Tonight after filling in all the paper work and having our induction we got a small taste of what its all about.

We were shown how to do an Arm massage then had to practice on each other.

Its all about knowing the routine and what move comes next.

A massage should be as relaxing for the person giving it,as it is for the person receiving it.

A big thank you must go to Geoff for encouraging me to do this….and for making it possible too….I will make sure he reaps the benefits…

Its Made….

Off I went first thing this morning to get my cooking apples then I was all set twalk 011o make my jam.

The jars were washed and put into a low oven

a) to dry them out

b) to have them warm enough for the hot jam so the glass doesn’t break

I prepared the blackberries and the apples got the sugar all ready , then had a panic as my pan did not look big enough

Not to be out off I carried on anyway and found out the hard way that mwalk 012y pan was just a little too small, the phone rang and I left the pan for a moment only to come back and find it pouring over the sides all over my cooker.

nevertheless I managed to make some great Apple and Blackberry jam.

It has set perfect but then you cannot really go wrong if you use the special jam sugar you can buy.It has added pectin to help it set.

Making jam is so easy and it tastes so much better than shop bought ones ……

Juicy and fruity as my son says…..

Following Geoff (day 7)

Tonight Geoff is at Logibar and much to his delight the bar was open.

His stats for the first week are :-  over 182,342 steps 142km , 7400m up and 7000m down.

Tomorrow he is going to do the Le Pont suspendu d’Holzarte a suspension bridge, over a 500ft drop, it  adds  an hour to his walking day but will be well worth it. It looks fantastic and I will be sorry not to be doing it too 🙁
