Autumn Walking

Today we did a 14 mile walk from Barley with the Cambridge Rambling Club.

Two weeks ago we walked 14 miles in torrential rain but today the weather was just perfect.

Blue skies and lots of sunshine made it one of the best autumn walking days.

The walk took us through many green lanes covered with fallen leaves.

All the winter wheat could be seen poking its head through the soil.

Only 5 weeks till the shortest day then spring will be on its way 🙂

These days I have trouble remembering telephone numbers, car registration numbers etc and always have to write them down.

Its a sign of getting old so I am told.

I was moaning about it this week after I took a number and forgot it with in minutes.

What I find amazing though is the fact that I Joined the WRAF in 1978 aged just 17 and can reel off my service number with out even thinking about it 🙂

I left the WRAF in 1986 and have never needed to use this number since then.

Alcoholic Raspberries

Tonight I strained and Bottled my Raspberry Gin and Voda.

I has forgotten which was which but thanks to old blog posts I soon worked it out 🙂

I collected the nice small bottles from The Orchard Tea rooms in Grantchester.

They are the perfect size to give as gifts.

Not sure what to do with the alcohol soaked Raspberries.

Maybe they would make a great trifle for Christmas so i have put them into the freezer for now.

Rain and Sunshine

On Sunday we did our walk with the Cambridge Rambling Club.

A good 14 mile walk with 11 eager walkers turning out in torrential rain and Heavy winds.

At one point for a few seconds, I really did think we must be mad, but lets face it what else could you do on such an awful day.

Today was a complete contrast to Sunday, cold, clear blue sky’s,and lovely sunshine.

So we found ourselves down near the coast at Wolferton, walking round Dersingham bog before we headed to Sandringham and a look round the Queens Sculpture Trail.

Sweet potato and chickpea cakes

Serves 4, makes 8-10 cakes

  • 3 sweet potatoes
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 tin of chickpeas
  • 1 red onion
  • A pinch of dried chilli flakes
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • A handful of breadcrumbs
  • A handful of chopped parsley
  • 1 tsp toasted coriander seeds, ground
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 whole egg

Preheat your oven to 180C Drain the chickpeas and in a large bowl mash them with a potato masher. Don’t squish them to a puree, that’s not what you want. You are looking for a textured mush, with lumps here and there. Peel and grate in the sweet potato and carrot. Finely chop the onion and add this to the bowl, along with all the other ingredients. Mix everything together – this is best done with your hands. Line a baking sheet with greaseproof, rubbing a little oil on it. (If you rub oil on the tray, then push the greaseproof down onto it, it’ll stick quite happily). Take a handful of the mixture, about the size of a Clementine, and roll it in your hand until you form a ball. Squish it down to about a centimetre thick. It doesn’t matter if there are little bits sticking out – these will become lovely and crispy as they cook Place the cakes on the baking sheet. When you’ve done all of them, you can either pop them in the fridge to firm up a bit, or stick them straight in the oven. They’ll take around 25 minutes to cook.

Arrived Today

I wonder if these will help me 🙂

If I learn a word a week, it will only take a 1001 weeks 🙁

At least I am trying 🙂

I usually listen to my French learning C/D on the way home from Cambridge on a Monday.

Last week I learn how to ask for things… Je voudrais = I would like

This week it was Avez-vous de =  do you have any

I like the c/d’s as you get to hear how to pronounce the words, which I can find hard .

I just hope pandammonia does not insist on speaking French when we meet up at the week-end.

A Sunday walk.

After feeling so poorly during the week I was so glad to be feeling much better yesterday.

It meant I was well enough to go on our planned walk with the Cambridge Rambling club.

Of all the Sundays we walk, yesterday was a special one, as it was 3 years ago that I met Geoff, on a walk of course 🙂

So it only seemed right that we went walking yesterday .
