Watching the clock

Tonight at massage class we got timed doing our whole body massage for the first time.

It was amazing to see just how far out we were with our timings.

As we went further into the routine we did start to get better.

We have been encouraged to  get ourselves a small travel clock so we can really practice keeping to time now.andrew bunn 005

What I would really like is a music disk, with each piece of music lasting the correct length of time, for each part of the massage.

This week I got to do two practice massages, one was Andrew , who works at Tesco, the other was John who works with my son.

Neither of them had ever had a massage before.

Both seemed to enjoy it and have asked when they can have another one.

You can see from the photo how much Andrew enjoyed it, he was fast asleep by the time I had finished

Back of the body

Update on my massage course..

We have now covered the arms, neck and chest, stomach , front of legs and back of legs.

I can almost do the whole routine from memory, and its getting better every week.

next week is the fun week when we cover the bottom before moving onto th250px-Sternocleidomastoideuse back.

Just as I know the whole routine Geoff will be off to Dubai so I will have to find someone else to practice on during December.

I will have to keep practicing as in January we open our doors as a salon and will  be giving massages to the public… well those that dare to come and book a massage.

On the theory side we are now covering muscles…this is much harder than the Bones…with names like Sternocleidomastiod I have trouble pronouncing  them let alone remembering what they do and where they are in the body.

BUT I will learn them and I will pass the theory because I am just loving this course.

I have had my turn with Steven.. the 19 year old life guard ,now its time to let the other girls have there turn with him  🙂

Front of body..

We have now finished learning the massage sequences for the front of the body.

This includes the arms, neck and chest as well as the abdomen and legs.

we have also covered consultation forms and doctor  referral letters.

Tonight we spent the whole evening practicing, which was an excellent way to finish off for half term.

I worked with a different girl tonight which was also very interesting….she is doing the course so she can massage her HORSE, which I found quite amusing to say the least ( wondering how massaging me compares to massaging her horse 🙂 )

We now have a week off then go back to start learning the sequences for the back of the body.

we shall also be leaving behind the bones of the body and moving onto the muscles.

My massage table got delivered today so there should be no stopping me now…….( wonder who is first on my list )

Abdomen and front of legs…

Tonight at my massage class after a recap on the arms, neck and chest massage we learnt how to massage the Abdomen.bone

This massage involved a new technique called Vibrations… its quite a hard move to master and will need lots of practice.

We also got a demonstration on how to massage the front of the legs but had no time to practice this till next week.

The theory this week was about the bones and skeletal system. We also covered the Vertebral column too.

Home work is to start learning the names of all the bones and their different functions….we also have to learn the parts of the vertebral column and how many bones in each section.

We had to change round partners tonight so we get used to working with people we don’t really know and of course no two bodies are the same so its good practice too.

I have a few people now who are willing to let me practice on them…..so my search for a good massage table must begin.

Something new and exciting….

Tonight I went off to college to start my body massage course.

I was excited and scared all at the same time.

Excited because I was going to learn something new and interesting, scared because its been along time since I was last at school. walk 015

I joined up with 20 other people including 2 guys, one of them only being 17, who you just have to admire.

Its not going to be an easy course as there is a lot of theory work as well as practical work, but it is going to be a very enjoyable course.

At the end when you pass you have an NVQ in body massage and are qualified to practice body massage.

Tonight after filling in all the paper work and having our induction we got a small taste of what its all about.

We were shown how to do an Arm massage then had to practice on each other.

Its all about knowing the routine and what move comes next.

A massage should be as relaxing for the person giving it,as it is for the person receiving it.

A big thank you must go to Geoff for encouraging me to do this….and for making it possible too….I will make sure he reaps the benefits…
