This lovely Fruit was on the market in Cambridge this week-end.

It made me think of Welshcakes over at Sicily Scene, who is always sharing pictures of the lovely fruit found in Sicily.

Over the weekend Geoff and I went looking at houses, no not for us but for him 🙂
It was a totally new experience for me.
I have always had no choice about where I live or about the actual house, never even seeing the house till I arrive with the furniture van closely behind 🙁
Out of the 5 we looked at there was 2 we liked, one was more my style of house and the other was more Geoff’s style.
We looked at 2 amazing flats, I never actually believed people lived in these kind of flats, they had a very sterile feeling though and I felt they could never truly be a home , they felt more like hotel rooms:-(
The problem is trying to decide what to do.
The house which is more my style offers Geoff everything he needs for now and is so much cheaper.
The house that is Geoff’s style is beautiful ,although it could be a cold house and have car parking problems, it could be better longer term.
Will be interesting to see what happens over the coming weeks.
Today we did a 14 mile walk from Barley with the Cambridge Rambling Club.
Two weeks ago we walked 14 miles in torrential rain but today the weather was just perfect.
Blue skies and lots of sunshine made it one of the best autumn walking days.
The walk took us through many green lanes covered with fallen leaves.
All the winter wheat could be seen poking its head through the soil.
Only 5 weeks till the shortest day then spring will be on its way 🙂

These days I have trouble remembering telephone numbers, car registration numbers etc and always have to write them down. Its a sign of getting old so I am told. I was moaning about it this week after I took a number and forgot it with in minutes. What I find amazing though is the fact that I Joined the WRAF in 1978 aged just 17 and can reel off my service number with out even thinking about it 🙂 I left the WRAF in 1986 and have never needed to use this number since then. A request was made by Emily for a very vegetable dinner on Saturday evening. A typical student away from home missing her fresh fruit and vegetables. After going through my Slimming world recipes i decided a Vegetable Lasagne was just the answer. The sauce is made from milk and Fromage Frais which makes it a far healthier dish than your normal lasagne. Here is the recipe 1 aubergine I also added a fennel 🙂 Heat oven to 200 c / 400 f / gas 6 chop all vegetables and place in a roasting dish with the crushed garlic and rosemary. spray with fry light and roast for 30 mins meanwhile make the sauce. blend the cornflower with the mustard and 3 tbsp of the milk. bring the remaining milk to the boil and stir in the cornflower mixture. heat for 1 or 2 mins until sauce thickens remove from heat and stir in the fromage frais then season to taste. remove vegetables from oven and stir in the passata. spoon half the vegetables into an oven proof dish then cover with lasagne and half the sauce. repeat this , then sprinkle over the parmesan cheese and bake for 30 mins. serves 4 and 3 1/2 sins per portion. Even i was amazed at how delicious this dish was, it could easily be served to friends, they would never no it was a slimming world dish. Glad to say it was enjoyed by all 🙂 Tonight I strained and Bottled my Raspberry Gin and Voda. I has forgotten which was which but thanks to old blog posts I soon worked it out 🙂 I collected the nice small bottles from The Orchard Tea rooms in Grantchester. They are the perfect size to give as gifts. Not sure what to do with the alcohol soaked Raspberries. Maybe they would make a great trifle for Christmas so i have put them into the freezer for now. On Sunday we did our walk with the Cambridge Rambling Club. A good 14 mile walk with 11 eager walkers turning out in torrential rain and Heavy winds. At one point for a few seconds, I really did think we must be mad, but lets face it what else could you do on such an awful day. Today was a complete contrast to Sunday, cold, clear blue sky’s,and lovely sunshine. So we found ourselves down near the coast at Wolferton, walking round Dersingham bog before we headed to Sandringham and a look round the Queens Sculpture Trail. A bargain and I love the purple colour 🙂
