Practicing what I preach

When my boys moan about having to do certain things, I always tell them, as they get older they will often have to do things they don’t want to do.

So to set them an example I am about to do something I don’t really want to do.

Although there is a possibility that I might actually enjoy it.

On Wednesday I am going into work to get trained on the tills BUT that does not mean I am giving up my fish job.

My Garden in May

Its so exciting to see the apples starting to grow, on dwarf trees only planted last year.

My gooseberry bush is full of berries too.

I will cover it with netting soon to stop the birds from pinching all the fruit like they did last year !

Think I have enough Rhubarb to make Geoff a Rhubarb crumble at the weekend.

The Blueberry bush that I thought had died because I watered it with tap water seems to be doing fine and I might get some berries if i am lucky.

Now, dare I say this , we could do with some rain but just enough to water the gardens 🙂

A hot walk

As Sunday promised to be the hottest day this year so far , it was a great day to try out my new kit.

We did a 15 mile  circular walk from Standon with the Cambridge Rambling club.

As always it was a lovely walk and we did a small detour into Braughing , so we could sample the delights at the village hall.

My new trail shoes were comfortable and kept my feet much cooler 🙂

My new bag was excellent and the airflow system worked brilliant keeping my back dry, usually on such a hot day the back of my T-shirt would be dripping with sweat !

I also took a Clarityn tablet just in case but today there was no sign of any heat or allergy rash 🙂

Prepared !

After the disaster with my heat rash or allergy last weekend I am now better prepared for the heat … I hope !

We made a visit to Advanced performance this morning and was well looked after, getting lots of advice on trail shoes.

They had a good stock, where due to there gait analysis we were able to purchase the shoes most suitable for our feet and way of walking.

I settled on a pair of bright red mizuno trail shoes, as usual I had to have mens shoes and in a size 9 1/2, so they don’t look that elegant but then I am after comfort rather than looks.

Unfortunately they have a great selection of running gear too and I could not resist new shorts and a very girlie bright pink t – shirt, along with new running socks 🙂

Of course all this kit will make me run much faster when I do my Race for life event in July

Later in the day we visited the new Cotswold shop in Cambridge , this was a big mistake !

I have been thinking about upgrading my day Ruc-sac for a while , I was after a more up to date one which meant it would be lighter and have the new air flow system, making it cooler.

I  found one today that I really liked so now I am the proud owner of a Deuter Spectro AC  28 , in Red to match my shoes of course 🙂

So with a selection of walking socks and some Clarityn Allergy tablets I am well prepared for tomorrows walk 🙂

I will be eating baked beans for the next few weeks but that fine as its only 3 weeks till we go to Italy and I still have a little bit more weight to loose 🙂

Top priority

After suffering over the weekend with a very bad case of heat rash round my ankles.

Which I gather is quite common in walkers.

I have decided that I must get myself some walking shoes rather than boots ASAP.

Now a days walkers tend to wear trail shoes for walking and most never go back to boots.

I also think i should change my socks to the light weight walking socks.

So the search begins 🙂

Goring to Windsor along the Thames path

As Geoff is still making his way along The Thames path it was decided that I should go and join him for the weekend 🙂

So on Friday my friend Tom Tom and I made our way to Goring on Thames.

The plan was Goring to Henley on Saturday then Henley to Windsor on Sunday.

Fantastic weather conditions on the Saturday but a bit drizzly on the Sunday.

Beautiful scenery, bridges, locks, Boats and swans all the way.

A total distance of 43 miles was walked in 2 days 🙂

Here is Geoff at the half way point, shame I wont be there to take his photo when he reaches the Thames barrier tomorrow 🙁

Other photos from day one can be seen here and day two here
