Lincoln 10k Road Race

BlingI don’t part with my money easily and sometimes because of this I miss out on some fun with my friends

When the Lincoln 10k was mentioned I didn’t pay much attention

Then I was shown the medal you get and that was it, I could not resist 🙂

All paid up with a race number of 2670

Should be a great day out  and good practise for the GEAR 10k

2013… what a Year !!

I ended 2013 with a very windy Ely 10km run.. no P/B today but was pleased with my time considering the conditions and the amount of exercise I had done in the past 4 days , which consisted of  a 5 mile run, 52 mile bike ride , 27 mile bike ride then 6 mile run today 🙂

IMG_11452013 has been a great year for me, I took on an extra contracted shift at Tesco doing a job that I actually enjoy and after much nagging I am getting more training too !

My little massage business continues to grow and gives me great pleasure 🙂

Joining the ladybird running club has changed my life and led me to parkrun and to Road biking with SWNC, where I have made some lovely like minded friends, and finally after all these years I feel that Kings Lynn is becoming home 🙂

Since August 2013 I have been logging my run and rides on strava and have done 1164 miles on my bike and 225 miles of running…..  in 2014 I think I will log my longer walks on dailymile just so I can see how many miles I walk, fitbit logs my day to day walking which adds up to quite a lot too

I have lots planned for 2014 including the wiggle no excuses 80 mile sportive ride, the GEAR 10km, the LDWA Daffodil dawdle 26 mile walk, the 100 mile Sandringham ride and maybe a half marathon in October and who knows what adventure I will get up to with Geoff…  !!

Tomorrow we start the New Year walking with CRC…

Run up to Christmas..

As you can see from my header, we had a great, fun, Christmas parkrun.  What really made my day though was discovering an e-mail offering me a place in the Ely 10k on New Years eve 🙂

Geoff and I then went off to have a fabulous 3 nights at The Ship in Dunwich, a truly excellent place to stay if you enjoy the coast in winter.

We managed 2 great walks avoiding all rain, although plenty of the footpaths were flooded and foot bridges had been washed away in places !!

We arrived back in Cambridge today after stopping at the Emmerdale Farm shop, in Suffolk, where we managed to buy everything needed for our Christmas day feast, no queues no hassle no fuss !!

I then had time to pop into Advance Performance for a new pair of running shoes, where I am always impressed with the advice and knowledge they offer.

IMG_1129It was nice and quiet in the shop today so they had plenty time just for me…… it seems my lower back/hip ache is caused because I swing my hips when I run instead of lifting my knees !!

Apart from the fact that my shoes were totally knackered they had been a very good fit.

So after trying on a few shoes, including a lovely pair of ladies, purple Mizuno,  which just didn’t feel quite right I opted for yet another pair of men’s Saucony, in a boring blue !!

I was also advised to change my running shoes after 500 miles or a year depending on what comes first..

Now lets see if I can end the year with a P/B when I do my Ely 10km

Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas   x x

Chrsitmas fancy dress parkrun

Before Geoff  goes off on his travels again I am so looking forward to spending some time with him over Christmas and the new Year.

We are booked to go and stay at The ship in Dunwich for a few days right before Christmas, its very exciting as I love being near the sea in winter time and have always wanted to stay here.

1456742_670670809639250_511206697_nAlthough it did mean I was going to miss the Christmas King’s Lynn Parkrun Fancy Dress .

King’s Lynn Parkrun is something I have become to love, its fun and full of lovely friendly people whose company I enjoy, which helps me cope with the weekends while Geoff is away travelling…

But Geoff has saved the Day by changing our booking so now we can go after Parkrun and stay till Christmas Eve…

Not that I am becoming Fanatical about parkrun !!

Getting fitter !

After years of running walking and exercising I thought I was quite fit,but felt I had become “stuck in a rut” doing the same things over and over again

DSCF7741So I decided to join the ladybirds running club, and started going to parkrun.

Then I had a great opportunity to take up Road Biking and amazingly my fitness has just improved in leaps and bounds.

Yesterday was my 10th parkrun and I managed a P/B of 27.45 something I never thought I could achieve then today I came home from my 50 mile bike ride with SWNC and for the first time didn’t want to lie on the kitchen floor and die 🙂

But best of all its great to have met a new circle of like minded friends who encourage me every step of the way  !

Clowning around at Parkrun

Last Saturday 14th September was Kings Lynn’s parkrun’s second birthday.

Parkrun Doing the parkrun is something new for me but it can become highly addictive as its so much fun and very sociable.

Many of the park runner’s have already clocked up 50 runs and received their 50 t-shirt which I think is fab 🙂

Last week to celebrate their birthday it was a fancy dress run and many people turned out in the pouring rain to have some fun and eat cake …

I never usually dress up but decided to join in the fun and ran dressed as a clown, complete with wig, which gave many people a smile on a dull and rainy day.

and of course I also took cake , triple chocolate brownies, which I think were enjoyed because I didn’t even have a crumb to take home 🙂

It even made it into the local paper the EDP but I thought the photo was disappointing, all those people turning up in Fancy dress and just a photo of runners  🙁

Kings Lynn Parkrun 100 and a PB for me !

On Saturday the 17th Aug it was Kings Lynn’s 100th Parkrun and my 4th, although I have also done one at Milton too.

As always I enjoyed the nice friendly atmosphere, these Saturday morning runs help me cope with the weekends, when Geoff is away and I am meeting some really nice people too.

It felt like I had an excellent run, so I was a little disappointed when I quickly checked my Garmin at the end and it read 29:29 or so I thought ! ( I didn’t have my glasses on at the time )

After enjoying lovely cake, tea and a good natter I wandered home Listening to my audio book .

So imagine my surprise and delight when I down loaded my stats from my Garmin to see I had mis-read my time and It actually read 28:29 making it a PB for me   🙂
Parkrun 100

I think the Biking is making me run faster, or it could be that I told my legs I would buy that Purple bike helmet if I got a PB….

Chocolate brownies and a run

Every now and again I meet up with my friend  Gina from Norwich it usually means a lot of chatting Chocolate Browniesand some exercise, the last time we met it was for the Daffodil Dawdle Challenge walk in March.

Today Gina visited me at home so we could go and run my new favourite 10k route around the Church Ruins at Bawsey. Luckily for us the weather was kind and the wind and rain stayed away.

It was a great opportunity for me to cook lunch for us too, we had Chicken Chilli and Sweetcorn soup and the most amazing chocolate brownies that have not lasted the day 🙁  Both recipes came from another friend of mine Yvette, who we visited at Easter.

As Gina was unable to join us for our Wherryman’s way walk maybe our next meet up should be to walk the Boudicca way a 36 mile walk from Norwich to Diss.
