Geoff’s Route

image

This is Geoff’s walking route, plotted on Memory map and put into his GPS.

He has marked all the refuges onto the route.

There are plenty of them so no need to take his tent just a bivvy bag, this will keep the weight of his ruc-sac well down.

His average walking day seems to be around 13 miles, although there are some shorter days.

Knowing Geoff he will try to double up a few days, and try to get as far as he can as quick as he can.

He has new walking boots…lets hope they are comfortable and give him no blisters,as I wont be there this time to massage cream into his feet every night 🙂

Geoff and the GR10

While in Cambridge this week-end I have been helping Geoff get ready to go off on his travels.DSCF0774

On Tuesday he flies out to Biarritz to start the GR10 walk across the French Pyrenees.

He would love to walk the whole 500 miles but wont have time as he wants to be home for my Birthday .

He has been very naughty and booked a real treat for my birthday, I have no idea what it is ,but his daughter Emily says I will be over whelmed when I find out.

It goes with out saying that I will miss Geoff while he is away but he will have a fabulous time and I cannot wait to hear all about it.

Its my job to keep you all updated with any news

Jam making

I have this huge desire to make some jam….. Apple and blackberry jam to be precise.

After hunting high and low I finally found my Good Housekeeping Complete Book of Home Preservingjars 001

First problem is I have no jars…. but I have asked around and they have started pouring in and I am sure I will have tons of them very soon.

Second problem is, can I pick enough blackberries, I need 4lb of them.

You will have to watch this space to see if I manage to pull it off.

But I do have a plan B as I know someone with a nice plum tree full of plums 🙂

Nene way and lyveden way

nene way lyveden way 010

As I had to collect my son from Higham ferrers we decided it was a good  opportunity to go and do some walking in Northamptonshire.

I especially like walking in this area with its nice rolling countryside.

We parked the car in Thrapston and picked up the Nene way along to Aldwinkle and Wadenhoe.GR20_082707_007

We stopped at The Kings Head in Wadenhoe for a pint by the river Nene, before picking up the Lyveden way footpath.Which is Northamptonshire smallest country path.

We then walked along to Lyveden new Bield  an intriguing Elizabethan lodge and moated garden, before making our way back to Islip and on to Thrapston.

A total of 14 miles in glorious sunshine.

Jesus Green Pool

As most of you will know Geoff and I enjoy swimming at the Jesus Green pool every week-end. In fact Geoff hardly misses a day and goes from its opening in may till it closes in September.GR20_082507_003

This week-end the Guardian had a supplement called the great outdoors:wild swimming and The Jesus Green pool was at number 56.

This is what it had to say about the pool :

“opened in 1923, Jesus green remains one of the longest outdoor pools in the UK, coming in at a whopping 90m.Right by the River Cam, this is a tranquil spot for alfresco swimming at its finest.Surrounded by old time trees that act as a leafy windbreak and sunshade, it has grassy plains on one side for sun worshipers to lounge away the hours”GR20_082507_001

Must say on Friday the water was at its coldest since its opening in may but it did soon warm up over the week-end with all that lovely sunshine.

We did record breaking distances too, 18 lengths for Geoff and 20 lengths for me.

When its cold Geoff’s finger tips go white and look really odd….but then someone who swims outside in the cold wind and rain maybe is odd  🙂
