End of an Era……..

The Cambell’s factory in Kings Lynn is to close, with a loss of 250 jobs.

It opened in 1950, and the cooling tower has become a landmark of Kings Lynn.Whether this will stay or go has not been decided.

The company was bought out last year by Premier foods..

Campbell’s added brands such as Oxo, Batchelors, Homepride and Fray Bentos and the famous Campbell’s soup to Premier’s portfolio which already included household names such as Crosse & Blackwell, Branston Pickle and Bird’s custard.

Premier said the Campbell’s site would close by the end of the year while a sister factory in Ashford, Kent – which employs 195 people – would also be closing by May next year.

One of my Favorite cookery books came from Cambell’s, it has over 125 recipes all made using Cambell’s soup.

Post Counts…..

For some reason unknown to myself ,people on the RA Forum are getting their knickers in a twist, once again about post counts.

In the years I have been using that forum this problem crops up every now and again, and I just cannot see why they have to argue amongst themselves about how many times people are posting………

Its not a competition and I am sure no one really cares who posts or how many times they post.

If no ones posted it would make for a very boring forum.

Think its because they are not getting out walking enough………Where as i am off to Sheringham this week-end for a week-end of walking with the  Cambridge Rambling Club

Wonder if any other Forums have this problem….????

A Fishy Tale of Love………

I have been following Hugh’s story about his Valentines wine labels with great interest. You can read about it here and here.

Being a big softie at heart, I just fell in love with the whole idea .

As Tesco is going to be stocking these wines I would like to be able to offer advice to some of my customers, by suggesting what wines to buy SO the big question is….

Which of Hugh’s stormhoek wines would be best with Fish……

Good sellers around Valentines will be Salmon, Seabass, Tuna , Monkfish and of course oysters.

Nice to be Appreciated….

Following on from yesterday being the most depressing day of the year.

I wonder how many people really took a sick day yesterday.

Each year sick leave costs the UK economy about £13 billion. On average, we each clock up ten sick days a year. Stress is the leading cause of long-term illness for office workers, while back pain is the leading cause for manual workers

How many people are really guilty of  just bunking off work ,because they feel like a day off.

Also we all have different levels of pain, while some may think they are dying other will carrying on working.

Here is a letter I received , from my place of work , saying thank you for supporting other work members by not having one sick day in 6 month. I have many of these letters, and its not that I am never sick I just never seem sick enough to take a day off work.

Very nice letter I know and more than most get But would it not be nice to get a day off work instead.

Forget the Gym……

An article in today’s Daily mail……says what alot have known for a long while Forget the gym – why a brisk walk is really the best workout

It even got a mention on the Ra forum, although some will hope it boosts there membership, others will worry about there being too many people out walking .

Walking is something everyone can do, and it has many benefits…

Strengthens muscles in the feet, legs, hips, and torso

Nourishes the spinal structures

Improves flexibility and posture

Strengthens bones and reduces bone density

Helps with controlling weight.

Its free and easy to do and no expensive gym fee’s needed, If you need a goal why not think about doing the Race for Life.

I have done a few of these events and they are really very emotional , everyone has a story to tell, everyone is running or walking for someone they know, who’s life has been touched by cancer.

Every Walker Should have one….

That’s a Banana Guard of course !!

If your fed up with your banana getting bruised and black this is just the bit of kit you want.

 As quoted from there site….

Q: “Not all bananas are the same size or shape, so how can the Banana Guard fit them all?”

A: The Banana Guard was specially designed to accommodate the majority of banana sizes. Our testing indicates that over 90% of commercially available bananas will fit into the Banana Guard. Highly curved bananas can be straightened ever-so-slightly without harm to fit the Banana Guard shape. The opposite holds true of very straight bananas.

They even do a glow in the dark one……..

Beautiful Day for a Walk

Took myself off to Icklingham in Suffolk today, for a 16 mile walk with the legstrecher group, starting time was 9am and I only just made it by the skin of my teeth

The legstrecher group is a step up from your normal Rambler group but not quite as long or fast as the LDWA walks.

After having a poor turn out for a few months this group is now becoming quite popular with 13 walkers turning out today.

It was a good walk , taking in open fields, woodland, and with a stretch along the river too. we went past the Anglo Saxon village at West Stow County Park  before returning to the car park.

The weather was very kind to us and although a little windy at times on the whole it stayed sunny and bright, you might say a perfect walking day.

it was great to catch up with everyone again, and thanks to Dave who did a great job of leading the walk.

The information from my pedometer was…..

16.3 mile

33,928  steps

1819 cals
