Skiing not walking…

Today I finally realized that I can actually ski, just because I cannot get all the way down the mountain in one go does not mean I cannot ski. flickr

Although I wont be happy until I can get down in one go 🙂 I am sure doing better than last year.

Geoff talked us into going up to Mont Chery to ski today, the last time I had been there was in April 2007 when we had walked to the summit in training for our GR 20 walk.

There was a few moments at the top when I felt real scared but then I pulled myself together , stopped looking down, and concentrated on skiing from side to side. It was a fantastic feeling.

Big an easy….

When we went to get our ski’s I asked for some nice slow one’s 🙂iphone 054

The ones they gave me are called Big an easy so that did make us laugh.

The boys decided they would like to try snowboarding .

So today I treated them (or was it for me ) to an hour and a half snowboarding lesson. They got on well even though Matthew almost took the instructor out.

Theiphone 029 instructor came limping over to me and asked how we would say it in English I replied crippled.. 🙂

They had a fantastic day, even though they scared me half to death, it was fantastic to watch them pick it up so quick.

As for me well I skied better than I ever have done before , even the boys were impressed.

I only fell once….. until I tried to do something more difficult !!

Best if I stick to what I know I can do, that way I really enjoy it.

Intellectual Reading…

I have updated my blog roll to include Emily and Mark, both have taken up blogging since Christmas.

They  are proving to be very intelligent 6th form students, who are not afraid to voice their own opinion.

More importantly they are two of the nicest young people you are ever likely meet.

Which in this day and age says a lot about them !

They are already being noticed too.

A near miss…..

Now nice and snug in Geoff’s apartment In Les Gets.

Usually we always get the bus into the Train station but I decided we would have a treat and booked a Streamline taxi for us.

This morning it did not feel like a treat when the Streamline Taxi I had booked for 8am did not turn up till 8.35am. Our train left at 8.55am and even if we had flown we would never have got there in time.

There attitude was unbelievable, telling me they could not predict the traffic, my reply to that was that I could, which is why I booked a taxi for an hour before I needed to be at train station.

My only option was to get him to take me to Ely train station instead… when he radioed in the reply was “Its people like me that make the taxis run late” well I can tell you I almost had a heart attack then.

I asked for a reduced fare to Ely but the taxi driver said he could not do that BUT he would take me to the office if I wanted to argue about it… and of course I had plenty of time to be doing that.

Anyway we arrived at Ely train station with 2 min’s to spare, costing me £30 instead of the £8 it would of cost to Kings Lynn station.

I don’t think I will be using Streamline Taxis again for anything that’s really important. As its seems to me that they cannot be relied upon.

Facing my fears ..again.

Tomorrow I will be flying out to Les Gets with Geoff and my boys, for a week of skiing.DSCF1719

I am not the worlds best skier, here are my thoughts from last year.

I have grown a lot during the past year and have become a far more confidant person. Will be interesting to see if that confidence shows in my skiing.

This will be the first time I have been away with my boys for over 7 years so a very special holiday for us and very kind of Geoff to invite them.

They have been skiing once before about 8 years ago , where they had a week at ski school and took to it like ducks to water, I put it down to them being young and having no FEAR !

As you can imagine my house has an air of excitement about it at the moment.
