Fun Day in Felixstowe

Today we headed over to Felixstowe for the yearly sea swim with the Jesus Green regular swimmers. It’s the first time I have joined them at Felixstowe.

In the early days they always used to go to Dunwich, where I remember it was always cold and windy with a very rocky beach I also remember how cold I used to get so today I went with no intention of swimming.

The weather was also predicted to be wet and as we left Cambridge it was actually pouring with rain, this made me feel quite happy about giving up a cycling day !!

When we arrived at Felixstowe much to out amazement there had been no rain and it was actually quite warm, we made our way to the Fludyers hotel to meet up with the others and enjoy a social cup of coffee while Jane tried to encourage me to swim !

The sea temperature was 15.5 but I still insisted I was not swimming although I did notice it was a nice sandy beach, with lots of nice small groynes. Then I thought it might be rather nice to feel cool for a change since these menopausal flushes drive me so mad !!

Getting in was the hardest part as it felt so cold,I was very vocal, just like I am when riding up a large hill !! But once in it felt amazing and exhilarating. I spent the next 30 mins enjoying a fantastic sea swim getting out feeling refreshed and cool but not cold.

We then walked along the sea front where we enjoyed lovely fish and chips and I finished the day off with a Rhubarb and Ginger Gin and Tonic.

Arriving back in Cambridge we found it was still raining so we definitely had the best weather day today.

The Big Swim..

Yesterday was a sunny but windy day, a nice day for an out door swim.

So I took myself off to the opening day of The Jesus Green swimming pool.

Its the third year that I have been there on opening day but only the second time I have actually been in for a swim.

Last year I only managed 4 lengths.

I am proud to say this year I did 10 lengths.

The water temp was 12c and when I got out the pool I was red with cold.

After a hot shower, a sit in the sun and a big glass of wine, I realized there is nothing quite as nice as swimming outside ๐Ÿ™‚

With Geoff away I am finding it hard to always get photos but here are a few รขโ‚ฌยฆร‚ย  when Geoff is home he will now be able to swim at Jesus Green for FREE ๐Ÿ™‚

Will I or Wont Iรขโ‚ฌยฆ.

On Saturday Jesus Green pool opens for the first swim of the season.swim

As you know Geoff and I usually go, last year we were first in and had our photo in the local paper.

Usually it opens on a Monday so just a select few get to go, this year they are hoping more will turn up as its a Saturday.

Plenty of people have made sure I know about the opening, so I know I will be made welcome.

Trouble is I am not sure if it will be the same with out Geoff ๐Ÿ™

But I have just bought a new costume just in case ๐Ÿ™‚

A little bit of luxury….

As most of my readers will know Geoff and I like to swim at the Jesus Green out door pool during the summer months and also enjoy a swim in the River Cam too.

When it gets to this time of year we start to miss the swimming.image

So this year Geoff decided to Join Greens health and fitness club which has a really lovely pool with  a sauna ,steam room and  hot tubs.

Tonight we went for our first visit, I got in using one of Geoff’s many free guest day passes, with out a guest pass its £10 for a day visit ๐Ÿ™

It was heaven and so relaxing, I can see I will want to go every day I am in Cambridge.

My own gym at home does not have a swimming pool and I resent having to drive there so I can see when my own membership runs out I may well Join greens instead and enjoy it with Geoff ๐Ÿ™‚

October madness..

Sunday was the annual trip to Dunwich beach with the Jesus green outdoor swimming people.

As Geoff is home early from his walking trip we were able to go.

We left Cambridge as the sun was breaking through with the  promise of a warm day and  arrived in Dunwich in cloud and mist with the temperature barley above 12 deg.

We then joined 20 other people for a swim in the sea… passers by looked at us all in amazement.

As I am scared of this sea it was a great achievement for me to stay in and swim around  for 20 min’s.

Then it was out and off for fish and chips to warm up.

The mad thing was we did a 160 mile round trip and did not go for a walk on Dunwich heath  ๐Ÿ™
