Outdoors show….

Well thanks to my free ticket from Paramo I visited the outdoors show on Sunday.

Enjoyed the show very much got some ideas on ruc-sacs, as I need a new one for the GR20. Any suggestion would be helpful ???

Preferred the ones more suited to climbing , the Lowealpine mountain attack, but didn’t like the fact it had no side pockets or webbing on the front, which can come in useful, when walking.

Got to say hello to Stuart from country walking forum….. but none of the Guys on the RA stand used the Forum so I escaped there…  🙂

Geoff  got a fantastic little tent The terra-nova competition will be very cosy for the 2 of us !!.  I was amazed at how easy it was to put up, even for a blonde like me……

As it was Mothers day too I also got to call in to see my mum, as we practically passed their door on the way to Birmingham, was the first time in aprox 25 years that I have seen my mum on Mothers day.

Took me aprox 1 hour and included a couple of Norfolk hills, good to get the thighs burning.

Biking will certainly be part of my Training routine now.

Shame about all the fly tipping.

No Exercise…..

Apart from my walks here and here , I have done no other exercise for almost 2 weeks.

Why ??  because I fell over and twisted my ankle, yes I kept very quiet about it . After falling over I carried on to walk 21 miles, it was not until I took my boots off that I felt how sore my ankle was.

Then after a day at work, where I am on my feet for 6 hours, it became very swollen, since then I have been taking care of it, wearing a support bandage and doing no exercise.

Trouble is I am now desperate to go out jogging,or down the gym, which I know I cannot so tomorrow I may have to get my beloved mountain bike out.

I was into Biking long before Walking, used to spend half my life at Thetford Forest biking the Black mountain bike route.

When I lived at Marham I had a wonderful route that took  me through Shouldham Warren , across country by the river , and back through the fen.

Last year I did the bike event 50 mile ride from Norwich, and the Waendel week-end, walking 19 miles on the Saturday and biking 25 miles on the Sunday.

Tomorrow could be the first time my bike has been out since October.

Iris Folding

As alot of you will know as well as walking and baking I also enjoy doing some Craft work, I enjoy making cards too and the technique I enjoy most is called Iris Folding.

Iris folding is a fun and easy paper folding technique that can be used to make greeting cards.

Iris folding is very versatile in that any type of easy to fold paper can be used. Left over Christmas wrapping paper works great, so do envelopes, the one’s with the blue patterns inside.

The technique originated in Holland and it is called Iris folding because the center of the design resembles the iris of a camera or eye. Traditionally, origami paper is used for the main design and holographic paper is used to fill in the center of the design.

Instructions on how to make one can be found here

Some books on Iris Folding can be found here

Why not make one for someone special !!

Geocaching

Is some thing I have been reading about and would like to try, I think it would be great fun.

Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for GPS users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a GPS unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the Internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache.”

Its quite a new thing ,only starting in May 2000, you can read about its History here

Sounds a bit like a treasure hunt using your GPS , basically you get the coordinates from the web and then go and find the cache.

Tips on finding your first cache

The rules are simple.

1.Take some thing from the cache

2 Leave some thing in the cache

3. Write about it in the log book.

You can also hide a cache for others to find.

Tips on hiding your first cache

It would be a great way to get children out walking.

The walk I did on Sunday with Geoff and Ellee had 3 caches we could have found !

Here hoping I get out soon to find my first geocache, and this is the one I want to do
