Greetings from Les Gets – Day 3

Woke nice and early for today’s walk as we wanted to fit in a good walk before catching our flight home.

I had aching legs from yesterdays walk but that was not going to put me off.

We drove down to Samoens, where we followed the GR5 as far as Maison Neuve. This gave me the chance to try out some ladders and also find the white and red route markings. The route markings will be the same on the Gr20.

We then picked up the Gr96 and followed that all the way back to Samoens.

Once again the views were just fantastic……

Total ascent was 1264m , Descent 1264m

distance was 10 miles.

Total time out was 5 hours…. walking time 3hr 32 min’s, resting time 1hr 27 min’s.

Greetings from Les Gets – Day 2

Well if yesterday was to break me in gentle, today was to test me !

Woke to another beautiful sunny day and got out earlier than yesterday.

We drove a short distance down to a village called Essert la Pierre, which is just out side Morzine.

Our aim was to walk up to Pointe de nantaux..

The ascent was 1100m in 2.86 miles.

Walking time was 1.5 hours with a resting time of 1.5 hours….

The descent was 1100m

Walking time 2 hours with a resting time of half an hour.

My ruc-sac weight was aprox 8kg, which included everything I am taking to Corsica , apart from my roll mat and a few bits and bobs. I have learnt to pack light , who needs deodorant and shower gel…….

Fantastic views of Mont Blanc.

Saying of the day was “GEOFF … wait for me”, one day I will walk as fast as he can 🙂

During the whole day we only met another 4 walkers , where would that happen in England on such a fantastic sunny day.

What a girl gets after a hard days walk….. A creme Brulee coup

Greetings from Les Gets – Day 1..

We woke late today to brilliant sunshine, so could not wait to get our boots on and get out walking.

The plan was to break me in gentle too some real mountain walking.

We set off to walk up to the top of Mont Chery.

Long mileage was not the aim of the day just a good ascent and descent.

We managed an ascent of 753 m and descent of 753 m, mileage of 7.8 miles total walking time 2 hours 48 min’s.

Snow was still lying on the summit of Mont Chery.

Favorite word of the day from me was…. WOW….  the views were just fantastic .

A Change of Plan…

We did go up the coast on this beautiful sunny day, but walked from Brancaster to Stiffkey .

A lovely walk along the coastal path of aprox 16 miles.

Had a fresh Crab from Brancaster staithe, which was delicious.

We walked along the beach in bare feet from Holkham to Wells , something I have not done for many many years.

A really great day , as always…..

A Very Demanding Walk….

A map showing all three walks we did.

On the third day we decided to walk from Glyn Ceriog to the Berwyns.

It turned out to be a very hard walk .

Paths very un-clear so most of the walking was through heather and bogs.

I even managed to sink into a bog almost up to my knees…..

We never  made it up to the top of the Berwyns, so that’s a good excuse to go back again.

Can tell you I was real pleased to see The Hand Pub where Philip was waiting to take us home.

Walking in Wales…

Over Easter I was lucky enough to go off to Glyn Ceriog nr Llangollen in Wales.

We had fabulous weather which gave us the chance to get in three days of excellent walking .

I carried a full Ruc-sac on all three walks which was good training for when I go to Corsica, glad to say I found my Ruc-sac comfortable and easy to carry.

I was surprised at how much extra weight the water added and I was also surprised to see how much I drank.

That could have been due to how much I sweated going up those hills 🙂

My boots seemed to work well my heel carried on healing even with all the walking, I did still get a few hot spots, but I think my skin just needs to harden in these places.

Next good training week-end is 20th of April when we are off to Les Gets in French Alps .

Only 10 weeks till Corsica….

Four Great Walks….

We left Lorraine’s house on Saturday morning and traveled to Rockingham.

Where we met with 4 friends and walked 16 miles, taking in some of the Jurassic way.

Geoff and I then traveled up to Hope in Derbyshire, using the Tom Tom GPS in the car , I was well impressed !!

After a great meal and a good nights sleep at The cheddar cheese pub we woke to a misty but dry morning.

After a full English breakfast , we set off on our walk, known in the area as the Edale Skyline.

We started off up Win Hill, over Kinder Scout, up Mam Tor and Lose Hill before dropping back down into Hope….. it was very very boggy on top of Kinder and also very very windy too.

Was very pleased with my fitness but very upset because I got a couple of blisters and some hot spots too.

After another great meal and good sleep , We woke to glorious sunshine so after another full English breakfast. We set off along the river into Castleton, we went up by the side of the castle and walked along The limestone way .

we then cut off towards Bradwell and Brough before following the River back into hope.

That evening we traveled back to Cambridge, feeling rather fit but tired.

Not being able to resist another walk, although I really should have as the blister on my heel was really sore.

We drove into Newmarket , where we walked along the Devils dyke into woodditton. in glorious sunshine once again.

we made our way back to Newmarket through the villages and footpaths, a really nice pretty walk.
