A great swap

A jar of my home made marmalade for two fillets of very fresh venison.

I think I shall pinch some red wine from Geoff this week-end and marinate the fillets in the wine before cooking them 🙂

Marmalade

A friend gave me a pot of freshly home made marmalade last week.

Its not something I am usually a lover of but this was delisious and didnt last the week.

So of course I had to make some. 🙂

Best time to make marmalade is when the Seville Oranges are out in Jan/Feb.

It takes a long time to make marmalade as the oranges have to be simmered for a few hours first to make them soft.

Which then makes them easier to cut into shred.

All the pectin is in the orange pips so these have to wrapped in a muslin bag and boiled with the Juice before adding the sugar.

Just when I was about to panic mine reached setting point.

I cannot really tell if its a good marmalade, in fact I think I would have liked the shred a little more softer.

So now I wait for the verdict, from people who will be lucky enough to get a jar 🙂

Amazing

For as long as I can remember I have always had trouble with my laces on my walking boots and running shoes.

If i didn’t tie them with a double bow they constantly came undone.

I presumed it was due to the vibrations from my feet hitting the ground over and over again.

Then Geoff discovered the Boot Lace secret

At first I was very sceptical but on Sunday I tried it out for myself.

My first knot is usually done left over right so I reversed it to right over left

Not only did I get a neat bow but it stayed tied for over 6 hours of walking, with no need for a double bow.

Amazing I would say 🙂

A short walk

As my friend T was leading a walk for the Newmarket Ramblers, I decided to take myself off to Knettishall heath yesterday to join them.

It was a long drive out from Cambridge but with a postcode and Tom Tom I found my way easily.

The walk started off on the Angles Way and finished on the Peddars way

Passing through some lovely wooded countryside on the way, we only had to make one divert and that is when we found our path had been flooded by the river.

A very enjoyable 11 mile walk with a surprise appearance from my Friend B 🙂 who had driven much much farther than I.

Lost for words

I realize not everyone is as lucky as me.

Some people live in mud huts and never get to go on holiday.

I often think about these people and try in my own little way to brighten their day.

For a while now I have been sending Devonshire Dumpling a postcard when ever I go away,so she can decorate her mud hut with them and dream.

I do it purely because i like to rub her nose in it  I enjoy doing it and I know she enjoys receiving them.

The last thing I ever expected was to receive something in return.

But this week I received the most wonderful gift from Devonshire Dumpling, in her words

“Its something for you and Geoff when you are rambling over the hills and dales and climbing every mountain, and fording every stream and following every rainbow”

My fellow walkers are going to be so jealous, mind you so is Geoff because he is a vegetarian 🙁 so I get to keep them all to myself 🙂

Now I bet your all wondering what I received, well lucky me got 6 boxes of hot pack meals

I just feel a bit bad (not ) that Devonshire Dumpling had to trade her beloved Raki in so she could afford to get me such a great gift.

I am in debt with her for a least a 1000 postcards so best I go and book another holiday 🙂

The best kind of walk

The weather was not nice when we woke this morning so I was quite glad not to be skiing today.

The plan was to go snow shoe walking, something I really enjoy.

Finally once the weather had cleared, Thierry lent us some snow shoes and we were on our way.

Due to the late start we only managed 5.4 miles but how I enjoyed it 🙂

On the way down we called into see Gail so I could say my goodbyes. 🙁

She gave me some typical french love hearts, that she had made herself and will look fab hanging in my house.

needless to say I will be sad to leave Les Gets and Geoff tomorrow.

White out

We woke today to find it snowing, Just what Les Gets needed.

It has continued to snow all day long.

So no skiing today as I hate skiing in low light

When you cannot tell the difference between land and sky.

So a very lazy day doing nothing , I could not even get Geoff out for a walk.

Now i want it to stop snowing 🙂
