After only 3 days on a snowboard….
After only 3 days on a snowboard….
Well today was the day I got from the top all the way to the bottom in one go and what a great feeling it was too.
I seem to like the blue run’s as I still like the ski run to be nice and wide.
I lost count on how many blue run’s we did or on how many chair lifts we used, but we had a great day.
I ended the day by skiing all the way back down into the village and what a confidence booster that was.
I am now worn out as you don’t get much of a rest when you don’t keep falling over 🙂
Photo of the day was Geoff on his snowboard…..
Today I finally realized that I can actually ski, just because I cannot get all the way down the mountain in one go does not mean I cannot ski.
Although I wont be happy until I can get down in one go 🙂 I am sure doing better than last year.
Geoff talked us into going up to Mont Chery to ski today, the last time I had been there was in April 2007 when we had walked to the summit in training for our GR 20 walk.
There was a few moments at the top when I felt real scared but then I pulled myself together , stopped looking down, and concentrated on skiing from side to side. It was a fantastic feeling.
When we went to get our ski’s I asked for some nice slow one’s 🙂
The ones they gave me are called Big an easy so that did make us laugh.
The boys decided they would like to try snowboarding .
So today I treated them (or was it for me ) to an hour and a half snowboarding lesson. They got on well even though Matthew almost took the instructor out.
The instructor came limping over to me and asked how we would say it in English I replied crippled.. 🙂
They had a fantastic day, even though they scared me half to death, it was fantastic to watch them pick it up so quick.
As for me well I skied better than I ever have done before , even the boys were impressed.
I only fell once….. until I tried to do something more difficult !!
Best if I stick to what I know I can do, that way I really enjoy it.
Tomorrow I will be flying out to Les Gets with Geoff and my boys, for a week of skiing.
I am not the worlds best skier, here are my thoughts from last year.
I have grown a lot during the past year and have become a far more confidant person. Will be interesting to see if that confidence shows in my skiing.
This will be the first time I have been away with my boys for over 7 years so a very special holiday for us and very kind of Geoff to invite them.
They have been skiing once before about 8 years ago , where they had a week at ski school and took to it like ducks to water, I put it down to them being young and having no FEAR !
As you can imagine my house has an air of excitement about it at the moment.
Just returned home from my little adventure, well big adventure for me.It’s been 7 years since I last went abroad ,infact only the second time in my whole life !
Skiing don’t come easy to me, I cannot tell you how scared I was going up that chair lift for the first time, trying to remember if I would even know what to do.
Spent most of the first day, out in the pouring rain, falling over more times than I care to remember , I have some superb looking bruises.
I was not going to be put of though and when the sun was out on the second day I had a much better time and quite enjoyed myself, not bad for someone who’s only skied once before.Amazing what you can remember after a whole 7 years, goes to show that ski schools are worth there money.
Afraid on the third day I wimped out, the little snow there was had turned a bit icy and I just didn’t want to end my holiday on a bad skiing day.
My trip home was a bit scary having never traveled so far on my own before but I got home safe and sound ,although the landing at Stansted was a bit hairy due to strong winds.
Last night being our last night in Les Gets we decided to go out for dinner. We went to Les Copeaux in Les Gets and over dosed on cheese by having a cheese fondue and a Raclett. Our Raclett was served with a selection of meats. using an electric table-top grill to melt the cheese.
Washed down with red wine this was all delish and by the time we had finished we were all feeling rather sick, but still found room for a pudding.
As you can see Steve still managed to wipe the bowl clean.
It will take me a month to exercise all those calories away but it was too good to miss out on.
