Afternoon Tea the low fat way

I have been following a low fat diet and have lost half a stone so far.

This way of eating suits me very well and I can see that I will be able to maintain my weight loss quite easily.

My one weakness is Cake, I especially enjoy a slice after a long days walking:-)

So whilst trying to loose weight I have limited myself to just one slice of cake on walking days only.

I have also realized that I can make better choices to help my weight loss

Here is a nice recipe for a Light fruit Cake.

110g light spread ( i used vitalite )
100g soft dark brown sugar
2 eggs
1 banana, mashed
200g mixed dried fruit
225g self raising flour
2 tsp mixed spice
2 tsp ground cinnamon

Pre-heat oven to 150c

Grease and line a 20cm tin

Cream the sugar and spread together in a bowl

Gradually mix in the egg and banana.

Add fruit flour and spice mixing well with a wooden spoon

Bake for an hour to an hour and a half

serves 8, 176 calories per slice and 3g fat

compared to

Mr Kipling manor house cake

serves 6 , 267 calories and 13.1g fat

    You do have to look at the labels of food when you’re cutting out fat and reducing calorie intake: many foods advertised as being low fat are full of sugar. The best thing to do is to make as much as possible yourself, as, I believe, Sally is doing!

    The cake looks nice, Sally, but I can’t stand bananas; I fear that is all I would taste if I had some, as is the case with smoothies made with bananas. Such a shame.

    (Bananas also have a high sugar content, by the way!)

    By cutting out fat, aren’t you just cutting down on proteiney calories? I mean, if you ate loads of boiled sweets, every day which are well sugary but not fatty at all, would you seriously still be losing weight? I don’t understand all this…
