A Fenlands sunset…
![]()
Taken while out walking with Ellee and Geoff on Sunday.
We walked over the fields from Stretham to Ely where we had tea and scones at the Almonry tea rooms before walking home…
This walk reminded me how nice walking in the Fenlands can be.
On the way back we visited one of Ellee’s old work places…
A great walk in glorious Norfolk sunshine…..or should that be Cambridgeshire sunshine… 🙂
Sloe.biz…
Well after the upset and disappointment with my cake last night, I am glad to say I got my sloe gin bottled and ready with just one minor hic-up.
The catch broke on the jar !!! making it impossible to shake and mix up.
I was just about to cry when my son came to the rescue and mended it for me… “silly mother fancy not knowing how to mend it “
So its now been well shaken and is away in the dark….
Found this fabulous forum all about sloes.. if you fancy making sloe gin chocolates then take a look…
Update… my fruit is now soaking in brandy ready for a second attempt at the Christmas tree cake tomorrow

Plan B…
Sloe far..Sloe good
My Christmas cake is in the oven, takes 4 hours to cook and I always find it an apprehensive time.![]()
I didn’t line the Christmas Tree cake tin, so I have to keep my fingers crossed that the cake will not stick to the tin.
My sloes are now in the freezer, ready to be bottled tomorrow. Thanks to comments on here I now know I do not need to prick the sloes if they have been frozen.
My sloe gin recipe is from the “Good Housekeeping complete Book of Home Preserving” .
1lb sloes
3-4oz of granulated sugar
75cl bottle of Gin.
Add it all to a tightly closing jar ,keep in a dark place and shake every day for a week, then continue shaking once a week for 2 to 3 month.
