Why do people collect things…

Most people collect and display something in their lives.

It might be a collection of family snaps stuck into an album, or holiday souvenirs arranged on a mantelpiece, assembled and displayed without any thought of being a "collector".

Other people form collections for a specific purpose: old masters for investment or memories "collected" on tape to preserve a changing way of life….

Over the years I have collected many things including 16 years worth of first day cover stamps.

BUT tell me, why did I collect and keep all the baby teeth from my two boys……

All to be found in this beautiful trinket box….

Do you have any strange collections ? ? ?

Secret Santa…

In another life I used to do quite a bit of craft work, quilting and card making.

Its been awhile since I had the time or the desire to make anything, although I did make a card for Geoff on valentines.image

Some months ago Helena from Creating A Likeness decided she was going to do a Secret Santa for any of her readers that wished to take part.

I decided it would be fun and sent her my details, 15 other blogger’s did too.

My card is now made and ready to send, for obvious reasons I cannot show you my card yet or tell you which blogger I have made it for.

It will be interesting to get my card and see what my blog has inspired that person to make for me.

A big thank you must go to Helena for taking the time to organize this.

Third time lucky….

Last year I had the hard task of looking for new walking boots, I finally settled for a pair of Asolo flame.

I was very pleased with these boots until the stitching began to come apart.

I returned them to field and trek and they exchanged them for another pair.

Unfortunately the second pair have now developed the same fault.boots 001

I got my first pair in April 2007 and my second pair in February 2008.

As these are not cheap boots I had expected them to be of better quality.

After getting wet feet on my last two walks I decided it was time to try and sort this problem out.

Field and Trek advised me to e-mail Asolo, so this week I did.

I had a quick reply from Asolo, they say as boots are still under warranty I should return them to Field and Trek .

They even go as far as saying if I have any trouble "Field and Trek should contact our returns department in order to resolve this."

Now all this points to great customer service….  so we shall see what happens at the week-end.

This time I want my money back as I don’t want to risk having the same problem with the same boots for a third time.

Then I have the task of finding new walking boots which is never easy….

Un-decided…

I am thinking about removing the Blogpower blog roll from my side bar.

I don’t have to explain why.

If I decide to remove it don’t worry I shall still visit all my favourite blogs.

I have been TAGGED…..

By my  dear Friend Anne .

First, the rules:
1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write six random things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them.
5. Let each person know they’ve been tagged and leave a comment on their blog
6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

Six random things ab05-11-2008 22;50;45out me….

1. As a baby I had a huge strawberry Nevis birthmark in the middle of my forehead.

2. I left home at 17 to join the air force.

3. I have been unable to read a book for over a year, many half started but none finished for some reason I am unable to concentrate.

4. I never watch T.V for the same reason.

5. At school I took an exam in Motor vehicle technology.

6. I hate using telephones so I am not good at keeping in touch with people who don’t text or e-mail.

I found this very hard to do but would not like to disappoint Anne.

Now 6 people to tag…

1. Cherrypie.

2. NoClue.

3. Finding life hard.

4. Lady Banana.

5. Onethoughtfulwoman.

6. Nourishing obscurity.

The photo is me as a baby…  my mum always did my hair in a big curl to cover my Nevis birthmark.

Lady in Red…

We had a posh frock party to go to at the week-end.

Most of you will know I have never really been a dress kind of girl always happier in my walking kit .

Geoff informed me he had found a great dress for me and it was RED.

Saturday morning off we went to look at it, I was convinced it would never fit me  let alone look good on me.

I am now eating humble pie…. not only was the dress fantastic , it fitted perfect and I felt like a princess in it.

The shop assistant made a real fuss over me making me feel even more glamorous.

Geoff treated me to the dress,( which overwhelmed me ) and I showed  it off to everyone I could during the day.

needless to say I had a great night, I think everyone was amazed at me in a dress and I really felt like a princess all night.

I can hardly wait to wear it again and I think Geoff can now be my personal dresser as he has such good taste.

Will have to share the photos with you as I cannot believe its me…….

Lemon Cake…

A a new cake recipe that I wanted to make for Geoff.

I had to abandon my first attempt at making it when my son called for a lift home from work as he had bike trouble.

So I rushed home from work on Friday to bake it before I left for Cambridge.

It was well worth the effort the cake was delicious, very moist and lemony.

Geoff loved it and he over spoilt me all weekend ( more about that later ) 🙂

If you make this cake for your husband/boyfriend/partner, I am sure you will get spoilt too 🙂

And the recipe is below……

115g self raising flourn95 019

1tsp baking powder

2 eggs

115g caster sugar

65ml double cream

lemon juice ( to taste)

45g melted butter.

oven temp 170/gas mark 3

Sift flour and baking powder together.

lightly beat eggs with the sugar, then beat cream into egg mixture for a minute.

add lemon juice.

Fold in the flour then gently fold in the melted butter.

Pour into loaf tin and bake for 45 minutes.

When cake is completely cold make the icing by mixing 30g of icing sugar with 1 tsp of lemon juice then drizzle over top of cake.
