Well …sob …sob… my cake was a disaster..

Totally glued into the tin…even though I greased and floured it…

So this means I was not meant to have a Christmas tree shaped cake so will be baking a round one instead !!

Sure Geoff will enjoy eating the broken tree….

My Christmas cake is in the oven, takes 4 hours to cook and I always find it an apprehensive time.

I didn’t line the Christmas Tree cake tin, so I have to keep my fingers crossed that the cake will not stick to the tin.

My sloes are now in the freezer, ready to be bottled tomorrow.Thanks to comments on here I now know I do not need to prick the sloes if they have been frozen.

My sloe gin recipe is from the “Good Housekeeping complete Book of Home Preserving” .

1lb sloes

3-4oz of granulated sugar

75cl bottle of Gin.

Add it all to a tightly closing jar ,keep in a dark place and shake every day for a week,then continue shaking once a week for 2 to 3 month.

• Off out for a stroll with geoff and bloger ellee beautiful day for it #
• At the almonry tea rooms in ely for tea and scones sitting out in the afternoon sun #

My sloes are picked and ready for making my sloe gin… first I will freeze the sloes then thaw them out before pricking the skins with a needle.
It won’t be ready for this Christmas but maybe we can keep it for next …

Today this was the sight we were greeted with as we walked into Cambridge town centre.
The new John Lewis store which is due to open on Thursday 8th Nov,was having its last crane dismantled.
To do this it took another two cranes.
An amazing sight……

• home and more forms to fill in… I am sick of forms and want them to end… #
• glad to say I am now back to my bubbly self after being low with a cold… #
