A Walking Wednesday

Geoff arrived back from Les Gets yesterday, so off to Cambridge I went.

This morning we got up to a lovely bright sunny day, just perfect for a walking Wednesday.

We set off around 10am along the Fen Rivers Way, Just after Waterbeach at lode farm we cut across country to Reach.

Where we stopped off in The Dyke’s End pub for a drink.

We then followed the Devils Dyke all the way into Newmarket.

To say Geoff was complaining about being unfit and full of aches and pains, he certainly pushed me hard and I only just managed to keep up with him, all good training he tells me !!

The information from my pedometer was…

Sunday at Sheringham

Saturday evening we joined Rob, Alan and Tyrone for an Indian meal, all I was interested in  was all the talk about walking ,I got lots of advice on how to prepare for the long distance walking I want to do, and it was great to hear them say ‘ I would have no problems’

Sunday we woke up to a dry but windy day, great for walking along the coast.

16 of us set out along the coastal path towards Cromer, great walking in the wind, makes you feel fresh and alive. After coffee in Cromer we joined the Weavers way  and headed toward Felbrigg, where we did a loop before going into Felbrigg hall and grounds. They say the Library of the hall is haunted by a Ghost

After lunch we set off back going past The Roman Camp near East Runcton before joining the coastal path back to Sheringham.

For me it was a fabulous week-end I realized I am quite a strong walker, came home full of enthusiasm and had no aches or pains.

Cannot wait for my next walk.

Saturday at Sheringham….

After arriving in Sheringham in the pouring rain, we woke to a damp but sunny day on the Saturday.

Not many people were about on the Friday evening, with everyone arriving at different times but we had managed to find out about the walks available.

Ellee decided to join me on the longer walk, so off we set at around 9am with 16 other people, for an 18 mile walk.

This is where I know I am getting addicted to walking because I so wish I had a map so I could have followed the route and know just where I walked, usually I am just happy to follow along and chat.  Maybe I need a GPS…maybe I am becoming too much of a geek…

Our walk took us by pretty corner toward Baconsthorpe, where there are remains of a fabulous castle. Then we went towards Bodham and along to Kelling. Where we had afternoon tea in a lovely tea shop ,that had fabulous home made cakes, but no Muffins !!  We then headed towards Kelling heath and the coast. Following the coastal path back into Sheringham was a great way to end the walk.

I chatted to everyone on the way, Rob, Alan and Tyrone had many  interesting stories, In fact Alan had recently walked the Appalachian Trail and did many of the LDWA challenge walks. Which I find very interesting.

Week-end of Walking…….

Today I am packing my Bag and Cleaning my Boots, ready for meeting up with Ellee for a week-end of walking in Sheringham.

We will be joining the Cambridge Rambling Club at the Youth hostel in Sheringham for what I hope will be a great week-end.

I have never walked with this group before so it will be good to meet some new people and I have never stayed at a youth hostel before so that will be interesting .

Weather forecast is good, cold but sunny, perfect for walking.

Hope you all have a good week-end,see you back here on Monday.

End of an Era……..

The Cambell’s factory in Kings Lynn is to close, with a loss of 250 jobs.

It opened in 1950, and the cooling tower has become a landmark of Kings Lynn.Whether this will stay or go has not been decided.

The company was bought out last year by Premier foods..

Campbell’s added brands such as Oxo, Batchelors, Homepride and Fray Bentos and the famous Campbell’s soup to Premier’s portfolio which already included household names such as Crosse & Blackwell, Branston Pickle and Bird’s custard.

Premier said the Campbell’s site would close by the end of the year while a sister factory in Ashford, Kent – which employs 195 people – would also be closing by May next year.

One of my Favorite cookery books came from Cambell’s, it has over 125 recipes all made using Cambell’s soup.

Post Counts…..

For some reason unknown to myself ,people on the RA Forum are getting their knickers in a twist, once again about post counts.

In the years I have been using that forum this problem crops up every now and again, and I just cannot see why they have to argue amongst themselves about how many times people are posting………

Its not a competition and I am sure no one really cares who posts or how many times they post.

If no ones posted it would make for a very boring forum.

Think its because they are not getting out walking enough………Where as i am off to Sheringham this week-end for a week-end of walking with the  Cambridge Rambling Club

Wonder if any other Forums have this problem….????

A Fishy Tale of Love………

I have been following Hugh’s story about his Valentines wine labels with great interest. You can read about it here and here.

Being a big softie at heart, I just fell in love with the whole idea .

As Tesco is going to be stocking these wines I would like to be able to offer advice to some of my customers, by suggesting what wines to buy SO the big question is….

Which of Hugh’s stormhoek wines would be best with Fish……

Good sellers around Valentines will be Salmon, Seabass, Tuna , Monkfish and of course oysters.
